I offer different levels of editing services:
Basic proofreading involves checking for errors in spelling and punctuation, typographical errors, and problems with page layout.
Copyediting includes checking spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax; editing for consistency and accuracy; cross-checking any tables, references, and illustrations or figures; and creating a style sheet to ensure consistency throughout the manuscript.
Substantive editing involves working with the client to solve problems of clarity and accuracy, as well as reorganizing and sometimes rewriting text to polish it and make it shine.

My Background and Qualifications
Prior to becoming a freelancer, I held a variety of office administration and business communications positions, both with for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations, spanning 10 years. This gave me a solid background in communications. As a staff writer I was responsible for internal and external newsletters, managing public relations and press releases, drafting proposals, and producing industry publications such as annual reports and corporate histories. I also conducted medical and legal research to write case histories and demand letters. I have self-published three nonfiction books of my own, as well as publishing hundreds of magazine articles, and have owned and operated La Luna Publishing since 1995.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in liberal arts, and am currently completing a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science. I am also earning a certificate in Indexing from the American Society of Indexing.
I specialize in writing and editing for British and American English speakers, having lived and worked in both cultures for many years. I also have expertise in writing about pets (rabbits, specifically) and health and wellness topics, based on my previous career as a massage therapist. Other areas of expertise include hobbies and crafts, spirituality, cooking, wine and spirits, gardening, and travel. I have also produced an instructional DVD and provided the script and the voiceover, and presented the content.
How Do I Get Started?
Send me an e-mail with a general description of your poject and your needs. I can do a free sample edit to determine the specific requirements of the project, and estimate the cost. This usually consists of a couple of chapters (approximately 20 pages) for longer works or a smaller sample (up to 10 pages) for shorter works. We then discuss my recommendations and decide together on the best approach for the project.My fees are based on either a per page or per hour rate (or per word for writing), depending on the project, and range from $25/hour for basic proofreading to $65/hour for substantive editing and writing. Once we agree to work together, I will send you a written contract with specifics. I accept payment by credit card through PayPal. I can sometimes accept rush jobs for an additional fee, depending on my workload.
